Submaster

(1) A control on a mixer ing console that controls the level of a groupmixture of signals, sometimes called a group master. Several submasters may be fed into a master control for final level control of the console output signal. The use of submasters makes it easier to handle a large number of input signals. See gang.

(2) Any tape used in the making of a master tape, but representing an earlier generation number of some or all of the material included in the final master.
