A command used by DOS to launch an application program. The RUN command may be used with various switches (subcommands) and is uniquely powerful and straightforward. This is no doubt owing to the sacred–cow status of the command conferred by its origin in the numerous progenitors of DOS, decades before anyone from Microsoft could confuse it.
