Master

(1) A gain control on a sound reinforcement or recording console that controls the level of a mixture of signals whose levels have been set by the individual channel-mixing pots. A console will have a master gain control for each output signal.

(2) The final version of a performance which will be used for the production of copies in a film production; this is the master dub. (4) One device within a MIDI network or recording/dubbing chain which provides the master clock.
