(1) To re-edit sound stems to match a new version of the picture edit, which is the final matching of all music, dialog and/or special effects to the video image. This may involve synchronization, editing, and re-recording one or more of the components of the final sound/video mix.
(2) To assemble sound elements from their original sources to match their location in a picture edit, often with the assistance of an EDL.
