In a tape recorder, an electro-magnetic device for converting the magnetic patterns previously recorded on tape into a voltage whose amplitude is proportional to the pattern. On some systems, the replay head is also used as a record head, i.e., the replay head is driven rather than listened to, and it may also be used as a sync head. The replay head is sometimes called a repro head.
