Percussion waveform

A percussion waveform is generated through the random noise generator of a synthesizer. If a second-order (two-pole) filter that has a high Q (low loss) is used after the noise generator, it simulates a drum. If repeated at a predetermined rate, it is called a repeat-percussion waveform, which constitutes the basic rhythm section of a synthesizer.
